Prescribing policy for controlled drugs

All prescriptions done by Doctors On Call will be subject to the legal requirements of the Misuse of Drugs Act (1975) and the prescribing statement issued by, The Medical Council of New Zealand.

As such, patients need to be aware before booking, that our doctors are unable to prescribe Controlled Drugs (including, but not limited to, opioids and benzodiazepines) where we are aware of, or concerned about, possible drug dependence or diversion.

For a full list of medications which are determined to be controlled drugs, and potentially impacted by this policy, please refer to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975, in the link below.

If you are not sure if this policy will prohibit access to a prescription you require, please seek advice from your regular GP.
